![]() New Yorkers don't bother touching up their bumber because we know it'll be scratched again in a week. Spots are also very tight and drivers start honking or trying to squeeze past you while you are backing up into the space. There's a good chance you won't see one or misread it and get a ticket. I don't recommend street parking at all in Manhattan for tourists because you are unfamiliar with the rules and signs can be interpreted a few ways. Taxis will cut you off and you'd better leave that light QUICK or risk being honked and glared at. Pedestrians, bicyclists, NYPD and the bain of NYC traffic: double-parked cars and trucks are everywhere. Unless you are heading to areas without public transportaton such as Staten Island or deep Brooklyn/Queens, better not to take the car out at all.Īnd install bumber guards around your car - it may come out of the lot scratched otherwise.ĭriving in Manhattan is either very slow or insane. Drive straight in, drop off your bags at the hotel and park your car for the duration of your trip. There are many $20/day parking lots even in Midtown (though they are concentrated on the far East and West sides, or uptown). The better bet is to use a website such as, input your dates, find a cheap lot not too far away from your hotel and print a coupon. BUT you have to pay for the train and drag your luggage with a transfer to the subway, if not multiple transfers. Yes, your hotel charges $40/day for parking and Weehawken is $20. If you want to drive to NYC, DON'T park outside the city and then take the train in thinking it is cheaper.
